‘The Five’ Makes Television History, Becomes First Non-Primetime Program To Rank Number One In Viewers For A Full Year

Fox News continues its dominance in the ratings, outshining rivals MSNBC and CNN in 2022. The network achieved the third-highest-rated year in cable news history for total day viewers, securing the number one spot in primetime and total day viewers in basic cable for the seventh consecutive year. It marked the 21st straight year as the highest-rated cable news network.

Nielsen/MRI Fusion data revealed Fox News attracted a politically diverse audience, drawing more Democrats, Independents, and Republicans than any other network in total viewers and the A25-54 demographic. The network achieved its second-highest share of the cable news audience in history, with 53% in total day in the 25-54 demo and 55% in primetime total viewers.

Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott expressed pride in the network’s achievements, highlighting its innovative programming and politically diverse audience. “The Five” made history as the first non-primetime cable program to close out the year as cable’s most-watched in total viewers.
