A 13-year-old boy prevents a kidnapper with a $3 toy purchased by his mother.

Owen Burns was returning home from school on an average afternoon when he heard his sister cry. He was irritated by the intrusion her squeals for aid caused, believing they were harmless.

He was stunned when he peeked out his window, but he recovered soon enough to make a life-saving decision.

Owen Burns was settling in to play “Call of Duty: Black Ops II” on his PlayStation 3 when he heard his sister crying from their backyard. The 13-year-old felt irritated because she thought she was fooling around.

A stranger was attempting to bring his 8-year-old sister to the woods bordering their home when the teenager peeked out his bedroom window.

The terrified adolescent grabbed his slingshot and grabbed whatever available ammo, which included a marble and a rock. He shot precisely at the abductor and struck him firmly between the eyes.

He smacked him in the chest the second time. “He was cursing. “He was cursing,” Owen told reporters.

So officers returned today to look for this guy’s sweater and discovered it was actually a shrit item he put in…

Maggie Kay Burns posted this on Thursday, May 11, 2023.

The incident occurred in broad daylight at the Burns’ house in Alpena Township, Michigan. Kidnappings were unheard of in the region, according to their mother Maggie Burns.

His 8-year-old sister was safe at the conclusion of the encounter, but likely shaken. The kidnapper was a 17-year-old who has not been identified by Michigan State Police but will be charged as an adult.

“He truly is the one who, I believe, saved his sister’s life or prevented something seriously bad from happening to her,” Lt. John Grimshaw said at a news conference, calling Owen’s efforts “extraordinary.” The acts of this young youngster were nothing short of amazing!

He went on to say that the young man should be applauded for his efforts.

The teenager’s slingshot was nothing out of the usual. His mother got it on sale for $3. The adolescent would go out to his yard and target practice on old orange juice cans, which he said improved his aim.

When the adolescent first witnessed a kidnapper attempting to steal his sister, he instantly believed that if the stranger was successful, he would either make his sister a sex slave or murder her.

According to Grimshaw, the kidnapper “came from behind her, grabbed her like you see in the movies — hand over the mouth, arm around the waist — and was attempting to pull her into the woods.”

Owen then pulled out his slingshot and fired at him. When his sister escaped him from the kidnapper’s clutches, she went inside the house screaming, informing her brother she had been nearly killed. Owen, outraged, stormed outside, denouncing the kidnapper. He threw a baseball at him, but it missed. He then tried again with his slingshot, but the rubber split, rendering his third try worthless.

The siblings then contacted their mother, who had stopped at a relative’s house to assist them on her way home from work. When she heard her disoriented and agitated children on the phone, she recognized the word ‘kidnapper’ and ran home to notify the police.

“I was in a state of shock for a few days,” Maggie said.

The kidnapper, 17, was discovered hiding at a nearby gas station. In Alpena County District Court, he was charged with attempted kidnapping, attempted felony assault, and misdemeanor assault and battery.

“He had obvious signs of an injury consistent with those that would have been sustained from the slingshot strikes to his head and chest,” the police stated in a news statement.

Maggie questioned his son’s account of smacking the abductor on the face and chest from 200 feet away. However, police validated the tale, stating that while interrogating the defendant, the marble-induced goose egg on his forehead continued to develop.

“You said I always lie!” Owen told his mother.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” she said, her voice shaking. “It didn’t seem real until there was proof.” It sounds like something out of a Hollywood film.”

“Stuff in movies can and does happen in real life,” the adolescent explained. This young man is clearly a hero!

This is such a fantastic tale that depicts the brave efforts of a big brother defending his small sister. Share this tale with your friends and family to motivate and encourage them.
