Actress and comedian Kate Micucci who may be best known for her role as Lucy on the sitcom The Big Bang Theory but also had roles in many well-known TV shows and films, such as Scrubs, Raising Hope, The Lego Batman Movie, Scooby-Doo, and DuckTales, shared some very serious news on TikTok.
She started the video with a joke, saying, “This is not a TikTok it’s a sick talk.” Although she clearly still has her sense of humor and was trying to keep the mood light, she shared some very serious news in her video.
Micucci explained that she’s “in the hospital and it’s because I had lung cancer surgery yesterday.”
While that is definitely some serious news and surprising news for her fans who had no idea she even had cancer, Micucci shared good news that “they got it really early.”
For anyone who thinks that only people who smoke get lung cancer, Micucci debunked that myth. She shared, “I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life.” As a result, she also found her diagnosis to be a huge surprise. She said, “It was a surprise, but also I guess it happens.”
She ended her video by emphasizing the good news that “they caught it early, they got it out, I’m all good.”

One in five people who die from cancer in the United States die from lung cancer. More people die from lung cancer in the United States than any other type of cancer, and like Micucci said, it is possible to get lung cancer even if you’ve never smoked.
Some factors that may cause someone to get lung cancer if they have never smoked include secondhand smoke, air pollution and exposure to radon.
The good news is that if the lung cancer is caught early, there’s a good chance of long-term survival. In fact, 70% of people who are diagnosed with lung cancer early will live a minimum of five more years.
In the comments of her TikTok, Micucci explained how she found out she had lung cancer. It started when she had some bloodwork done and there was “one thing in my bloodwork that came back really high.” As a result, she “went to a preventative doc who did a few scans. He scanned my heart and that’s where the spot in my lung was noticed.”
And here she is a while back during lighter times on Conan:
