Most of us believe there is nothing we would not do to ensure the pleasure and well-being of our loved ones.
The sentiment is typically accurate, but as we get older and have our own families, it can be tough to drop everything to support a loved one in need.
Sure, showing compassion and being available to chat are things that most of us can do all the time, but what would you do if a relative asked you to quit your job, go halfway around the world, and devote your life to their care?
Fortunately, you’ll probably never have to adequately answer that question. Chris Punsalan, a content producer and musician from the Philippines, did
According to rumors, Chris’s family resides in Nevada, while his grandma, 96, lives in the Philippines.
That arrangement worked great until his grandma ran out of caretakers. Her family was allegedly considering placing her in a care facility, but Chris was willing to go above and above, committing to a course of action that few of us would undertake.
In short, Chris made the decision to uproot his entire life and return to the Philippines to care for his grandma full-time.
Speaking to ABS-CBN a few years ago, Chris stated, “She took care of me, and I would hate to see her go to homecare, which I believe most grandparents do in America.
“They go to home care because nobody is able to take care of them.”
Chris, who had already built an online following via his job as a content producer, could not have predicted that his decision would become viral. He chose to embrace his new experience in the best manner possible, posting recordings of an ordinary day with his grandma.
“To see her forget who I am sometimes and for me to have to remind her,” he said. “That’s probably one of the more difficult things because it’s a constant reminder that life is very fragile, and it’s very short.”
While Chris lives distant from his family and has probably made significant sacrifices to care for his grandma, this sensitive young man feels himself lucky to be able to spend so much time with his elderly relative.
