Sally Field, 76, Called ‘Ugly’ after Deciding to Age Naturally – She Found Joy in Being a Grandma of 5 Living in Ocean-View House.

Sally Field is a renowned figure in Hollywood who has been active in the industry since the 1960s. Throughout her nearly sixty-year career, she has been acknowledged and acclaimed for her remarkable talent and achievements. Sally has excelled as a prominent actress in both movies and TV shows and has also demonstrated her capabilities as a director. Additionally, Sally is a kind-hearted individual with a strong commitment to social activism.

Sally Field was born in Pasadena, California on November 8, 1946. Her parents, Margaret Field and her father, who served in World War II, had a brief relationship that ended in separation. Margaret later married Jock Mahoney, who was both an actor and a stuntman. Given her upbringing in a family connected to the entertainment industry, it’s not unexpected that Sally would become a successful actress. She began her career by appearing in TV shows such as “Gidget” and “The Flying Nun.”

The esteemed actress has proven her staying power over the years. On February 26, 2023, she humbly received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, and during her acceptance speech, she passionately shared stories from her illustrious career in both movies and TV.

Despite her advanced age, the actress, who is 76 years old, remains as beautiful and graceful as the characters she has portrayed throughout her career. Her humility and wisdom only serve to enhance her appeal, and she continues to be beloved by many.

Sally has had a challenging experience coming to terms with her aging process due to an underlying health issue that has impacted her physical well-being. Additionally, she has had to deal with negative feedback about her looks. Fortunately, Sally’s family has been a source of support and inspiration for her, allowing her to regain her self-assurance and resilience. Sally has frequently expressed her opinions on the issue of ageism in the entertainment industry, which is a topic that primarily affects women and generates much debate. The media and the internet have been sources of negative criticism and unfair expectations for women, particularly in terms of physical beauty. Female celebrities and public figures, particularly those who are aging, face harsh judgments and accusations of trying to hide their age through cosmetic procedures.

According to her interview with Good Housekeeping in 2009, Sally has consistently been hesitant to undergo any type of surgical procedure.

“I see myself on TV and I say, ‘Oh, I wish that weren’t happening to my neck. And your face is falling down, and your eyes are so puffy.’ But then I see some of the women (who have had plastic surgery) who I thought when they were younger were so beautiful. Now I think, Oh, dear, don’t do that! And it seems to be terribly disrespectful to who they are now.”

As time has passed, Sally has continued to thrive in her career and has secured roles, although they may not be as prominent as the ones she had in her youth. However, this has not changed her perspective on the issue of ageism.

During a 2019 NPR interview about her film “Hello, My Name is Doris,” Sally discussed her age and talked about how she has come to terms with the changes that come with aging.

“I’m an old woman, 70 is old, and that’s OK,” Sally said at the time. “I’ve gathered strength behind my years, I owned them, I’ve earned them, I’ve deserved them, I have a right to have them. And I don’t like my neck, I don’t like a lot of things but it’s OK.”

Many people are unaware that Sally has an undisclosed medical condition that has had an impact on her physical appearance. In a 2006 interview with WebMD, which was a year after she had publicly disclosed that she has osteoporosis, Sally admitted that she had long suspected that she was at risk for the condition.

“I was thin, small-boned, Caucasian, and heading towards age 60. But I was amazed at how quickly a woman could go from being at risk to having full-fledged osteoporosis.”

The National Health Institute reports that osteoporosis is a prevalent condition that occurs when bone density and mass decline. It is worth noting that this disease is triggered by the reduction in estrogen levels that women experience as they approach menopause, as this hormone is essential for preserving bone density.

As a result, Sally has faced social media backlash for her looks, with individuals referring to her as “ugly,” “disgusting,” and ridiculing her for appearing droopy. Despite the negativity, the Academy Award-winning performer remained undeterred and has found fortitude, self-assurance, and encouragement from her loved ones.

In 1968, Sally tied the knot with Steven Craig, and together they had two sons, Peter Craig and Eli Craig. Peter later achieved fame as a screenwriter, while Eli pursued a career as an actor and director. Unfortunately, the couple divorced in 1975. After a few years, Sally started a relationship with Burt Reynolds, but it was Alan Greisman who she married in 1984. They had a son named Sam Greisman before divorcing in 1994.

“The three things I’m most proud of in my life are my sons. They are kind, loving, and productive people. Each with their own list of talents and accomplishments,” Sally gushed to Closer Weekly.

After downsizing her residence in Malibu, Sally now spends her time as a grandmother to her five grandchildren in a $2.3 million ocean-view mansion located in the gated community of Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles.
