In a sorrowful turn of events, Laura Lynch, co-founder of the iconic band “The Dixie Chicks,” now “The Chicks,” has died in a devastating car accident at 65.
Laura Lynch, a founding member of “The Dixie Chicks,” now known as “The Chicks,” tragically passed away in a car crash at the age of 65. The accident occurred outside El Paso, Texas, as she drove to Dell City.
Mick Lynch, Laura’s cousin, reported that the collision happened just after sunset on a highway. Details about the crash were initially sparse, with no immediate information on the specific circumstances.
The Texas Department of Public Safety later confirmed Lynch’s death, revealing the heartbreaking details of the accident. Their preliminary investigation indicated that Laura’s vehicle was struck head-on by another car attempting to overtake on a two-way undivided highway.
Lynch, remembered for her role as an upright bassist and lead vocalist, was declared dead at the scene. The other driver, who caused the collision while passing another vehicle, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. A full investigation into the accident has been initiated.

After the release of “Shouldn’t a Told You That” in 1993, Lynch gradually distanced herself from “The Dixie Chicks.” By 1995, she had fully departed the band to focus on her personal life.
Lynch devoted herself to her husband, Mac Tull, and their family, creating a home brimming with love and musical heritage. Together, they raised their daughter Asia, as well as Tull’s sons, Meriwether and Christopher.
