Donald Trump responded to Mike Pence’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race by underscoring a harsh reality in politics.
He stated, “But people in politics can be very disloyal!!!,”
after suggesting that Pence should endorse him. Trump expressed, “People are leaving now and they’re all endorsing me. I don’t know about Mike Pence. He should endorse me. You know why? Because I had a great, successful presidency and he was the vice president.”
Pence, addressing his departure, remarked, “It’s become clear to me it’s not my time. I’ve decided to suspend my campaign for president effective today.”
Prior to his decision, Pence was in fifth place in the polls, significantly trailing Trump. His fellow Republicans expressed their respect following his announcement. Senator Tim Scott praised him for his integrity, Governor Ron DeSantis commended his faith, and Nikki Haley acknowledged his service. Pence’s exit came on the heels of conservative radio host Larry Elder suspending his campaign.
