Sally Field’s journey in the entertainment industry was filled with challenges and obstacles, despite her successful career.

In 2018, the actress released her memoir, «In Pieces,» where she bravely recounted the harrowing ordeal she endured at the hands of her stepfather.

According to People Magazine, the book reveals a disturbing allegation made by Field about her stepfather, Jock Mahoney. It details the alleged sexual abuse she endured at the young age of 14. She remembered the moment when he called her into his bedroom, all alone.

“I felt both a child, helpless, and not a child. Powerful. This was power. And I owned it. But I wanted to be a child — and yet,” an excerpt from the book reads, as reported by the New York Times. After her mom divorced Mahoney in 1968, he passed away in 1989.

Regrettably, Sally Field’s encounters with tragic experiences did not end there. In her book, she bravely opens up about the abusive relationships she endured with two men in Hollywood: actor Jimmy Webb and director Bob Rafelson.

In December 2022, Field made an appearance on Andy Cohen’s show «Watch What Happens Live» for an interview. During the Q&A segment, fans had the opportunity to ask questions. One caller was curious about her «worst» on-screen kiss, as she had previously mentioned her favorite one with James Garner in the film «Murphy’s Romance.»

Field’s response was so immediate that it left the other guest star on that episode, Idina Menzel, completely stunned.

«Get ready for a surprise, folks,» she cautioned Menzel, the host, and the audience watching from home.

She proceeded to respond to her former co-star and ex-lover, Burt Reynolds. The actor from «Wicked» was taken aback and couldn’t help but burst into uncontrollable laughter.

«I can delve into the specifics, but I understand if you’d rather not listen,» she began, before disclosing that her dislike came from an abundance of «drooling.»

Field and Reynolds dated for a while, but in an interview with Variety, the actor said that her ex-partner made it up that she was in love with him.

In his memoir titled «But Enough About Me,» the actor shared his regrets about not fully pursuing his romance with Field during their time together. This heartfelt revelation offers a glimpse into the actor’s personal life and the emotions he experienced.

During the interview, Field expressed his discomfort with the person, stating, «He was not someone I could be around… He was simply not the right fit for me in any aspect.»

As per a New York Post article, Field and Reynolds supposedly started their relationship in 1977 while collaborating on the film «Smokey and the Bandit.» Their relationship had its ups and downs, but it eventually came to an end in 1982. During their journey as a couple, they had the opportunity to appear in four films together.

«As he thought about everything again, he made up the story that I was more important to him than he thought, but I wasn’t… He only wanted something that he didn’t have. I simply didn’t want to deal with that,» she added.

Following their breakup, the two remained estranged for more than thirty years. Field chose not to attend his funeral in 2018, yet she did acknowledge their bond in a statement to Page Six during that period.
