Woman gives birth to giant 2ft tall baby weighing 16.1lbs

A woman in Brazil stunned medics as she welcomed a baby that measured 2ft tall and weighed over 16lb.

As reported by The Mirror, a 27-year-old mom named Cleidiane Santos dos Santos gave birth to a baby boy via C-section at Hospital Padre Colombo in Parintins, Amazonas State on January 18.

The mother’s special bundle of joy is named Angerson Santos and was welcomed to the world weighing an astonishing 16.1 lbs and measuring 1.9357ft tall.

The hospital revealed that the newborn had been placed in an incubator after his birth, but was in a stable condition and showed no abnormalities.

Angerson – who is sweetly referred to as “bebê gigante” in social media posts by the hospital – is believed to be the largest baby to be born in the state, according to Portuguese-language newspaper El Globo.

He beats the previous Amazonas state record set by Pedro Aluizio, who was born in Parintins in 2014 weighing 6.74 kilograms (14lb 8oz) and measuring 57 centimetres.

As the newborn is already twice the size of the average baby, the clothes Cleidiane and her partner had purchased don’t fit so staff at the hospital have launched a fundraiser to help them out with all their needs.

In addition to this, the facility is also accepting donations from the local community, such as extra-large diapers and clothes for babies aged 9-12 months.

Cleidiane has expressed her gratitude to the medics for their continued care and support after giving birth to her precious son, stating: “I want to thank the team at the Padre Colombo Hospital, who are giving me strength and treating me very well, since when I got here. If it weren’t for them, I don’t know what would become of me.

“I appreciate each one,” she told the newspaper.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, most full-term babies are born weighing between 6 and 9 lbs.

Having a higher birth weight can lead to increased health risks for the tot and “can make [the] delivery of the baby difficult,” as stated in the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

Despite his unique size, Anderson is still nowhere near the world record for the heaviest baby to ever be born.

The Guinness World Records reported that the biggest baby to ever be born was a boy who was born to a healthy mom in Aversa, Italy, in 1955. In that instance, the baby tipped the scales at an incredible 22lbs and 8ozs.
