“Thank you for flying with us. See you next time!” With these words, Lincy, the flight attendant, saw off the last passenger from her flight. The trip had been quite uneventful, with no trouble from passengers.
“Gosh, I missed such calm flights with no incidents,” Lincy thought as she cleaned between the seats, enjoying the quiet after the passengers had disembarked.
Suddenly, she heard a strange mewing sound, like a kitten. Puzzled, Lincy looked around, trying to locate the source of the noise. She approached the last seat in the cabin and froze — there, nestled in a bundle of blankets, was a tiny, adorable baby.
“Oh my God, his mother must be going crazy now!” Lincy exclaimed aloud. She quickly scanned the area for any sign of the baby’s parents but found none. As she reached for the baby, she noticed a note lying beside him. With trembling hands, she unfolded it.
“Don’t waste time looking for me if you find this note. I could never provide him a good life. I hope you will take him and care for him as your own. I would be happy if you named him Matthew. Matthew Harris. This is my only request. And please, forgive me.”
Lincy’s heart pounded in her chest. She looked down at the baby, who gazed up at her with wide, innocent eyes, clutching her finger with tiny, delicate hands. The enormity of the situation hit her like a tidal wave. Someone had felt so desperate that they left their child on a plane, hoping a stranger would provide a better life.
Lincy quickly alerted the rest of the crew, and they contacted airport security. The baby, Matthew, was taken to a secure area while authorities began their investigation. Lincy, however, couldn’t get the baby out of her mind. His little face, the soft grip of his hand, and the heart-wrenching note stayed with her.
After the flight crew was released from their duties, Lincy sat in the airport lounge, her thoughts racing. She couldn’t stop thinking about the baby and the mother who felt she had no other choice. She felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility and a desire to help.
Later that evening, Lincy found herself in a social worker’s office, where Matthew had been taken. She explained the situation and expressed her interest in fostering him. The social worker listened, her face softening as she realized the depth of Lincy’s concern.
“Fostering is a big responsibility, Lincy,” the social worker said gently. “But if you’re serious, we can start the process. It will take time and involve several steps, but if you’re committed, it could be a wonderful thing for Matthew.”
“I understand,” Lincy replied, her voice steady. “I want to do whatever it takes to give Matthew the life his mother wanted for him.”
Over the next few months, Lincy underwent the rigorous process of becoming a foster parent. She attended classes, prepared her home, and underwent numerous assessments. Throughout it all, her determination never wavered. She visited Matthew regularly, bonding with him more each day.
Finally, the day came when Lincy was officially approved as Matthew’s foster mother. Holding him in her arms, she felt a profound sense of joy and purpose. She promised herself and the baby that she would honor the request in the note, providing him with a loving and nurturing home.
As time passed, Lincy and Matthew formed an unbreakable bond. She watched him grow, his laughter filling her home with happiness. She often thought about the woman who had left Matthew on that plane, hoping she somehow knew that her baby was safe and loved.
Lincy named him Matthew Harris, as the note requested, and dedicated herself to giving him the best life possible. And in doing so, she discovered a love and fulfillment she had never imagined, turning a moment of despair into a lifetime of joy and purpose.
